Versailles, once a royal hunting lodge of King Louis XIII’s, was transformed and enlarged by his son Louis XIV. Versailles represents the best of what France had of offer in the the 17th Century. The palace is full of splendors such as lavish interiors, interesting history and beautiful gardens.
One of my favorite parts of Versailles was the Queen’s Hamlet. This little country village was crated by Louis XVI for Marie Antoinette to help her escape the rigors of Court Etiquette. Marie grew up as a country girl and so this charming little area was where she would spend the days before having to return to the palace at night. Hamlet was not far, only a mile or two from Versailles.
The other part I found fascinating was the Grand Canal. This body of water in the middle of the gardens is one mile long and two thirds of a mile wide. Here mock naval battles would be carried out as entertainment for parties of other occasions.
Versailles was truly magnificent and it would obviously be more so in its time. I have uplodad a lot of pics to try and share what Versailles had to offer.
