Vaux Le Vicomte

7/18
Vaux Le Vicomte is beautiful and so much fun to visit. The weather could have been a little better, but you do what you can.

This chateau was build by Nicolas Fouquet and was the inspiration for Versailles. Unfortunately for Fouquet, his lovely chateau was means of his downfall. Fouquet, in an effort to impress King Louis XIV, threw a grand party in hopes of being named First Minister. Louis, having just faced financial difficulties himself, was jealous of Fouquet’s lavish lifestyle. A few days later Fouquet was put in prison by order of Louis XIV. It was said that in the evening Fouquet was King of France, at two in the morning, he was nobody.

This French castle was wonderful. We were able to do the candle light tour which was amazing. The pictures of the interiors you see are of real lit candles. The gardens were also very beautiful. As we walked through the gardens, classical music was playing. It all made for a wonderful evening at Vaux Le Vicomte.
